Thirty-two
years as a professional keynoter and
workshop leader,
combined with business continuity
planning and 17 years academic
research and writing on terrorism,
counter-terrorism, and CBRNE (Chemical,
Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and
Explosives Warfare), brought Craig
O. Thompson to a cross-road on 9/11.
Several years prior to the Attack on
America, Craig's professional
experience
and knowledge of community preparedness
and business continuity had caused him
to realize America
would not be prepared for a major
attack on our own homeland...whenever
it would hit.
The
Rand Corporation had predicted--by
mathematical formula--that the United
States would experience major attacks
within a 10 year window.
Unfortunately, the clock began ticking
in 1998. Every major think tank in the
country--regardless of political
persuation--agreed "it was only a
question of when." Yet politicians were
hoping for a reprieve long enough to
continue their partisan activities in
the halls of Congress and the White
House.
Craig
began to speak out. First, informally
to small groups. Then, by request to
corporate gatherings and government
agencies. By 2001, Craig O.
Thompson's first-edition book
OMAR--on
global
terrorism--took
him on the road for book
signings.

prior for Thompson's limited-edition
book published earlier, in 1998, Senator

Professionals,
Craig continued to present preparedness
workshops and keynotes that warned of
coming attacks at home. He appeared on
countless talk-shows. But was anyone
paying attention?
"Americans,"
he says, "were too busy pursuing life,
liberty, and the pursuit of
happiness."
Then,
all hell broke loose on 9/11. Talk-show
hosts, who had booked Craig prior to
September 11th called back and wanted
to know how he possibly could have
known about the attacks before our own
intelligence agencies, members of
Congress, and the White House. "It
wasn't a question of knowing," he says,
"it was a question of priorities. Few
Americans were willing to admit the
United States had any enemies after the
fall of the Soviet Union."
In
numerous prior media interviews,
keynote speeches, and during
a 3-hour radio interview--broadcast
from KFI Radio, Los Angeles on Monday,
September 10, 2001--Thompson
had warned listeners of Osama bin
Laden, the al Qaeda, lax airport
security, suicide bombers, biological
warfare, and the fact that thousands of
people would lose their lives on our
homeland.
In
fact, Thompson had said, "This is where
it will come from...it could happen
tomorrow, or ten years from now. Either
way, we won't be prepared!"
Ironically,
Thompson had already delivered a
keynote speech titled "The Terrorist
Cell Game" on August 9 2001 at the
Hyatt Regency, Washington,
DC...ironically taped and first
broadcast on C-SPAN on August 11,
2001--exactly
one month-to-the-day prior to the
attack!
During
his August 2001 Washington D.C. speech,
Thompson:
- Warned
high-level government leaders of coming
suicide attacks by the al
Qaeda
- Discussed
the vulnerabilities
of our "First Responders"
including all emergency personnel
from firefighters, police and EMT's,
to our entire medical community and
national public health system
- Warned
of the dangerous possibility that
our First Responders could become
our "First Martyrs" instead of our
"First
Heroes"
- Talked
of the secret,
unspoken, and highly dangerous
biological warfare threat
originating from the Former Soviet
Union (now Russia and the
Commonwealth of Independent
States)
- Forwarned
of less than adequate border
security and immigration control
- Addressed
the tremendous loss
and lack of "get down in the
trenches to get our hands dirty"
human intelligence in
critical parts of the world (BTW:
"intelligence" is a term Thompson
considers an oxymoron within many of
America's intelligence
agencies...and speaks of it
often)
- Spoke
of open-access information available
in public places--including the
Internet--that "a psychotic,
deranged individual...let alone a
terrorist" could use to create
havoc
- Stressed
America's continued naivaté,
arrogance, and smugness
regarding America's
vulnerabilities--following the first
World Trade Center Bombing and those
at the Khobar Towers in Saudi
Arabia, the 1995 bombing of the
Oklahoma Murrah Federal Building,
and the 1996 U.S. Embassy bombings
in East Africa.
Finally,
Craig describes his tremendous concern
about our complacent attitudes and the
fact that America "still lacks a
clear, definable plan for informing,
preparing, and coordinating its
citizens, businesses, and public health
infrastructure for the possibility of
terrorist attacks on our
homeland."
Countless
world-wide media interviews, followed
9/11. And for nearly three years
since...Craig O. Thompson has devoted
most of his time to the development and
presentation of focused workshops
and keynotes that prepare our
countrymen for the probability--not
possibility--probability of future
attacks on our homeland that "could
cause more devastation than Nagasaki
and Heroshima combined."
His
op-eds on the Saudis, and the Canadian
