THOMPSON: On August 11, 2001--exactly one month to the day prior to the Attack on America, Craig O. Thompson's keynote speech, "The Terrorist Cell Game" was broadcast on C-SPAN. In his address to the International Platform Association, what was meant to be a "caution to America" prophetically turned out to be a warning. During his keynote address, Thompson warned that Osama bin Laden and members of the al Qaeda would launch attacks on our homeland...and thousands would lose their lives. He talked of suicide bombers, and the possibility of biological warfare being launched with help from illegal, "moth-balled" bio-labs in the former Soviet Union (terrorists would not need the capability to manufacture biotoxins--they have already been prepared by others). Congressman Roscoe Bartlett, a member of the House Subcommittee on Terrorism, followed Thompson on the platform...and spent the first five minutes of his speech confirming everything Thompson had said. On Monday, September 10, 2001, Thompson was interviewed for 3 hours by Los Angeles' 50,000 watt KFI radio host, Lee Klein--on his late-night talk-show that reaches 16 states. Again, he gave warnings of attacks on our homeland by the al Qaeda...and talked of the need for massive programs of preparedness with our public health system--and within our borders and our Immigration & Naturalization Service (now U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforecement). He also spoke of poor airport and border security. During the interview a caller said, "We have more of a chance of being attacked by Oakland Raider fans (than by terrorists)." Thompson believes the caller was living in the same self-deluded ether that many members of Congress were living in...thinking--as the only superpower left--we had no enemies since the fall of the Soviet Union.
